Peer Education for HIV Prevention & Sexual Health

Peer education is based on the premise that young people, rather than adults, can better reach and connect with other young people to discuss and promote sexual health. However, scant research on peer education has focused on young key populations--LGBTQ+, people who use drugs, people engaged in sex work--in the Mekong Region.

This mixed methods project includes 1) a scoping review of the literature, and 2) qualitative in-depth interviews and focus groups to explore and identify knowledge gaps and key practices in peer education for HIV prevention and sexual health with sexual and gender minority young people (< 25 years) in the Mekong Region.  We explore developmental, cultural, and structural challenges and approaches to peer education in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
