“Soft like Silk, Pliable like Bamboo”: Practicing Resilience-in-Context—A Multi-method Study of Resilience with Sexual and Gender Minority Youth in Thailand
The Resilience Project aims to advance understanding of 'resilience-in-context', centered on the experiences of sexual and gender minority youth (SGMY) in Thailand. We aim to de-center conceptualizations of normative LGBT identity development derived largely from the Global North. Objectives are to: 1) critically explore and conceptualize 'resilience' with SGMY in a Thai sociocultural context; 2) identify strategies for negotiating sexuality and gender with Thai SGMY; 3) examine trajectories of resilience among SGMY; and, 4) engage SGMY in a participatory process of representing and practicing resilience.
